We stock and install Elite-compatible welding and fabrication components across San Diego, with most weld repairs and part replacements running between $240 and $680 parts and labor depending on what failed and what it’s mounted to. We carry common Elite weldments, hinge assemblies, and bracket hardware on our trucks, so we can usually get your gate solid again the same day you call. Most owners discover a weld or fabrication failure the hard way: the gate starts sagging, a hinge lets go with a groan, or the motor strains against a frame that’s no longer square. A cracked weld at a hinge or an operator mount isn’t just noisy, it’s the start of a cascade that can take out the operator, the wheels, and eventually the post itself.
If you’ve got an Elite gate that’s leaning, clunking, or binding, call us at (619) 793-3558. We’ll tell you over the phone what it probably is, what it typically costs to fix in San Diego, and when we can get there.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite builds slide gates, swing gates, and barrier arms, and most of the welding and fabrication work we do in San Diego falls into two buckets: structural repairs on the gate frame itself, and repairs or replacements on the steel mounting hardware that attaches the operator to the gate and post. On the slide gate side, that’s the SL3000 and SL3100 series, where the rack and pinion drive puts real stress on the rack mounting tabs and the operator plate. On swing gates, we see the CSW200 and CSW200UL series, plus the ESTI and older TS models. The common thread: every Elite gate that’s been in service for five-plus years in San Diego is eventually going to need attention at a weld point.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into all the time: Elite changed their operator mounting plate dimensions between production runs on the SL series, so a rack from a 2012 SL3000 doesn’t always drop onto a 2018 SL3100 without re-fabricating the mounting tabs. We measure on site, match the bolt pattern and the rack pitch, and fabricate or source the exact fit rather than forcing something close. On the OEM versus aftermarket question for Elite specifically: Elite’s OEM brackets and rack sections are solid steel and worth the money when they’re available, but for hinge plates, post brackets, and reinforcement gussets, a properly fabricated local replacement using equal-or-heavier steel stock holds up just as well, often at a lower price, and we can usually do it same-day.

Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags noticeably at the latch end. This almost always points to a failed or failing weld at the bottom hinge or the frame’s lower corner. Once that weld cracks, gravity does the rest, and every cycle bends the steel further.
- You hear a metallic groan or click when the gate starts or stops. That’s the sound of a cracked weld flexing under load. It’s usually at the operator mount, the rack tabs, or the hinge barrel to post plate joint.
- The operator mount or rack section is visibly pulling away from the gate frame. If you can see daylight between the rack and the gate, or the operator plate looks twisted, the welds have already let go. Continuing to run the gate will strip the rack or burn out the motor.
- The gate binds or scrapes mid-travel. A gate that used to roll smooth and now catches probably has a frame member out of true from a broken weld, which misaligns the rollers and puts sideways pressure on the rack and pinion.
- You find rust staining or hairline cracks radiating from any weld joint. San Diego’s coastal air in places like Point Loma, La Jolla, and Chula Vista accelerates corrosion at weld joints. Hairline rust lines mean the weld is stressed and the crack is starting.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In San Diego, most Elite welding and fabrication repairs land in these ranges:
- Hinge weld repair or hinge plate replacement: $240 – $380
- Rack tab re-welding or rack section replacement: $260 – $450
- Operator mount plate repair or re-fabrication: $300 – $520
- Full gate frame reinforcement or corner gusset fabrication: $380 – $680
- Post replacement with new weld plates (when the post itself is compromised): $480 – $850
What drives the range is mostly two things: how much of the old steel is salvageable, and whether the gate needs to come off its hinges to do the repair properly. Every quote includes the steel, the welding consumables, the labor, and the cleanup. We write the price down before we strike the first arc, so there’s no surprise when the invoice comes. And every weld repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s written on your invoice, not implied.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. If you’ve got a crack you can see, you can safely do one thing: stop running the gate and take photos from a few angles so you know what you’re looking at. You can also check whether the gate still sits level and whether the hinges are loose at the bolts. What you should not do is attempt to weld a gate frame or an operator mount yourself unless you’re a certified welder with the right equipment. A compromised gate under tension can drop, spring, or shear without warning. The same goes for structural repairs near the operator: if the rack tears loose while the motor is running, you’re looking at serious injury risk. Welding on an Elite gate is not a weekend project. It’s a job for somebody who’s done it a few hundred times, and that’s what we do all over San Diego. Call us at (619) 793-3558 and we’ll tell you straight whether it’s a quick bracket swap or a frame-out repair.
FAQs
A properly done weld on an Elite gate in San Diego should last 8 to 12 years in inland areas like Rancho Bernardo or Poway, and more like 5 to 8 years in coastal neighborhoods where salt air corrodes the joint faster. Factory welds that were never reinforced tend to fail at the lower hinge and the rack tabs sooner than that. If your gate is already 6 or 7 years old and you’re near the coast, a visual check once or twice a year is smart. Call (619) 793-3558 and we’ll take a look as part of a normal repair visit.
Most failed welds on Elite gates can be re-welded and reinforced without replacing the gate section or the operator hardware, as long as the surrounding steel is still sound. If the crack has spread through the steel itself, or the metal is thinned from rust, we fabricate a replacement bracket or gusset on site. The call comes down to the thickness of the remaining steel and whether the gate can be realigned. We’ll show you the difference before we cut anything.
Most hinge, rack tab, and operator mount repairs on Elite gates in San Diego are completed in 2 to 4 hours on site, including cooling time and a full cycle test. If we have to remove the gate, fabricate a new post plate, or do extensive frame reinforcement, that’s a half-day to full-day job. We’ll give you the time window in writing before we start, and we don’t leave until the gate cycles cleanly three times in a row.
Yes. Our trucks carry raw steel stock, hinge plates, gusset material, and common Elite rack sections, so most repairs don’t require a second trip or a parts order. We also keep parts on hand for the other major brands we service in San Diego, including LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls. If something needs to be fabricated to a specific Elite bolt pattern, we usually do that on site with a portable setup.
Call (619) 793-3558 and talk to a real person, 24 hours a day. We’ll give you a straight answer on what failed, what it costs to fix, and when we can be there. Written price before we start, 365-Day Done Right Promise on every repair, and a live person on the phone whether it’s Tuesday afternoon or 2 a.m. A written price before we start, a clean cycle before we leave – that’s just how a gate job should go.
