We’re a Kingswell company, and we’ve been fixing gates in San Diego since 2008. The crew you’ll see at your property isn’t a rotating cast of subcontractors. It’s the same small group of people, week after week. Dean Prescott built this location around a simple idea: hire people who’d be comfortable working on their own mother’s driveway gate, then hold them to a written standard. Background-checked, uniformed, and trained across nine gate-operator brands. You’ll know exactly who’s showing up before the truck pulls in.

Our People
Dean Prescott – Owner & Lead Technician
Dean has been turning wrenches on automated gates for over two decades, and he’s been running this San Diego location of Portcullis Gate Repair since 2008. He’s certified across all nine operator brands we service, from LiftMaster to Mighty Mule, and he still takes service calls most days because he’d rather diagnose a finicky photo eye than sit in a back office. Ask him about the time a rattlesnake set up camp inside a swing-gate operator housing in Ramona, and he’ll tell you while he’s checking your limit switches. He writes the guarantee on every invoice himself, and he’s the one who answers if something isn’t right.
Maria G. – Senior Installer
Maria has been installing residential and commercial gate systems for fourteen years, the last seven of them with our crew. She’s our go-to for slide gates that need precise track alignment and for the heavy structural work that comes with replacing a sagging cantilever gate in neighborhoods like Clairemont or Tierrasanta. She’s factory-trained on FAAC and BFT operators and handles most of our permitting paperwork because she genuinely enjoys reading municipal code. Off the clock, she restores vintage bicycles and will talk your ear off about bottom brackets if you let her.
James R. – Service Coordinator
If you call us at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday or 2 a.m. on a Sunday, the voice on the line is either James or one of two other live people. No voicemail trees, ever. James has been with Portcullis since 2015 and knows our service area block by block, which means he can usually tell you before you finish describing the problem whether it sounds like a bad capacitor or a stripped rack gear. He schedules every job with a real arrival window, and he’s the one who makes sure the written price is sitting in your inbox before the technician ever leaves the shop.
Chris T. – Apprentice Technician
Chris is the newest member of the crew, two years into his apprenticeship under Dean. He started on maintenance calls: greasing hinges, cleaning photo eyes, tightening the thousand little bolts that shake loose on a gate that cycles four hundred times a day at an apartment complex in Chula Vista. He’s now handling basic operator replacements on his own, always with a senior tech a phone call away. He’s got a background in low-voltage wiring and a habit of wiping down every surface he touches before he leaves, which we’ve decided not to train out of him.
One Standard, Every Job
The Kingswell Way is what ties this crew together with every other Kingswell company in the network. Each Portcullis location is independently owned and operated, but the standard is identical. Say the price before the work. Show up in the window we gave. Leave the place cleaner than we found it. Put the guarantee in writing. Come back if it fails. That last part is the 365-Day Done Right Promise: every repair carries a written guarantee stamped on the invoice, and if the repair fails inside a full year, we return and fix it at no charge. No fine print, no prorated nonsense. Dean has run this location that way since 2008, and the crew he’s built holds the line on every call, whether it’s a $35 photo-eye cleaning or a full slide-gate motor swap in Rancho Bernardo.
